 Who Uses Voip?

Written by: John Anderson - Jul 29, 2010

Voip has definitely gotten more popular over the last couple years, but that doesn't mean its a new technology. Actually, phone companies have been using voip for years to transmit long distance call. Now that the technology is widely available, voip phone systems are being used to bypass the phone companies. This is because of the added features and because it can be deployed in many various applications because it is so flexible.

One example is the insurance company Allstate. They used Avaya voip phones after hurricanes Rita and Katrina. They were able to quickly set up 2 new call centers just seven to fourteen days after the disaster, They wer then able to switch calls nationally to their agents using soft-phones based on ip.

Another example is the Luxury Hotel 1000 in Seattle. They wanted to offer additional customer service using Cisco Unified Communications system to integrate voip with video. This allows the guest to use the Cisco ip 7900-series phone in their room to see when the valet brings up their car, or see when their guests arrive. They can also use this network to adjust light and temperature settings for when they return to their room.

One of the advantages of a voip phone system from either Avaya or Cisco is the flexibility that they offer.
